Bathroom remodel in Evansville Indiana by Seibert Construction

Have you been thinking about remodeling your bathroom? It’s one of the first things most homeowners think of when it comes to home upgrades. Or maybe your remodel already started, and you’re already asking yourself this question.

More often than not, though, people want to know: What is this actually going to cost me?

Here’s everything you need to know about bathroom remodel cost in Evansville and what options you have.

Renovation vs. Remodel: Why It Matters

First, we need to understand the difference between a renovation and a remodel.

A renovation means you’re primarily making cosmetic updates such as a fresh coat of paint, installing a new vanity, updating the flooring, or replacing an existing shower insert.

With a full remodel, you can do all those things, but you’re also working on creating new features for your home. For example, remodeling may include replacing a tub with a custom tile shower or expanding walls to make changes to the layout.

We will briefly touch on renovations, but the main focus of this article will be on remodels.

Average Bathroom Remodel Cost in Evansville, Indiana (2026)

The following ranges are based on real bathroom remodels we’ve completed in the Evansville area, not national averages.

Cosmetic Bathroom Renovation: $8,000 – $18,000

A cosmetic bathroom renovation focuses on updating your current space with new paint, flooring, and lighting, but without major changes to plumbing or layout. This is a great way to update your space without making major structural changes.

Mid-Range Bathroom Remodel: $18,000 – $30,000

A mid-range bathroom remodel is where you start introducing custom features like tile showers and new fixtures. This seems to be the most common remodel we run into in Evansville.

High-End Custom Bathroom Remodel: $30,000 – $50,000+

High-end remodels involve incorporating custom features, high-quality finishes, and completely reworking a bathroom to meet specific homeowner needs.

These are the bathrooms you see when you scroll Pinterest. They have intricate tile work, heated floors, marble vanities, and other high end features.

Can You Remodel a Bathroom for Less than $8,000 in Evansville?

Often times we get asked if its possible to remodel a bathroom for less than $8,000. In most cases, performing a full remodel for under that amount isn’t realistic, especially if we’re doing plumbing, tile work, or new fixtures.

That doesn’t mean you can’t do an bathroom update for under that amount, it just means the update would be more geared towards easier improvements such as paint, new plumbing fixtures, or a basic vanity swap.

If you want a full bathroom remodel, its important to plan for a larger investment to ensure you’re getting the right product.

What Factors Influence Bathroom Remodel Cost?

Several factors influence what you might pay for bathroom remodeling in Evansville.

Custom Showers

Custom showers are usually number one on the list for bathroom remodel costs.

To properly install a shower (and trust me, you want it properly installed), you have to put in hours of time. You have to make sure walls are plumb, drain lines are set to the right height, your shower niche layout is where it needs to be, and your rough in plumbing is at the correct depth. All of this is just the planning stage. We haven’t even touched on the install part of this process.

Moving Plumbing

It’s incredibly easy to stand in your bathroom and think “that toilet would really look a lot better if it was over there”. Sounds so simple. Moving it eight feet over can’t be that bad right?

What you don’t see is the plumbing that toilet is connected to. Are you on a concrete slab foundation? That concrete has to be jackhammered out, lines reran, and concrete poured back. Sitting on a crawl space or basement? Now we have to cross floor joists to run our new drain line and hope we can still get the required amount of fall for it to drain.

What looks like a simple change can often have hidden costs.

New Fixtures

Have you checked the price on a new bathroom vanity? I’m not talking about the pretty one you saw on the box store website. I’m talking about the quality built vanities from kitchen and bath suppliers. On average, a good quality vanity is around $2,000, and that’s not including the sink or faucet.

Make sure your estimate has a realistic allowance so you’re not surprised later.

Your County

This one may surprise some people to learn.

The county your home is in actually influences the cost of your remodel. Now, the cost changes can be either a little, or a lot based on what needs to be done in the bathroom.

In this article, we assume the work is being done in Vanderburgh county. Vanderburgh has strict rules that a licensed contractor must follow to comply with permitting and inspections.

If any electrical or plumbing needs to be done, no matter how minor it may be, it must be done by that specific licensed trade. That means that as a general contractor, I can’t move a water line by myself. It must be done by a licensed plumber and bringing in a licensed plumber adds costs.

Surrounding counties have different permitting requirements, which can affect how certain trades are handled. The contractor in those counties may be allowed to perform minor plumbing and electrical work without having to hire on the respective licensed trade. It must still pass inspection and adhere to local building codes, but it gives the contractor more flexibility on those jobs and can help offset the cost for the client.

Why Should I Remodel My Bathroom?

As a general contractor, I’ve done my fair share of bathroom remodels.

Most of the time, a client is remodeling their bathroom for three specific, valid reasons:

  • Their current bathroom is outdated
  • They want to make it ADA accessible so they can age in it
  • They have some kind of damage already done

Lets discuss the first reason.

Outdated Bathroom

Pink tile, carpet floors, 80’s wallpaper, these are some of the more common remodels we get. Not only is the bathroom outdated, it’s also not functional. In today’s world, we see clients trending more towards modern finishes that are easy to clean and maintain.

Clients don’t want grungy carpet next to their bathtub or miles of grout they have to clean in their showers.

Today’s trends lean more towards function first, then style.

Now we install cultured marble shower surrounds which look like real slabs of marble, but without the hard to clean grout.

We install easy to clean frameless glass doors for shower entries rather than curtains which can mold and mildew.

Skirted toilets have seen a surge in popularity over the years. They make cleaning around them much easier.

Outdated bathrooms get remodeled because our clients are wanting something that not only looks good, but performs even better.

Age In Place

This is a close tie with the outdated bathroom reason.

When a person builds their first home, they are often young and able bodied. As a result, they usually don’t think about how they will navigate their home if they need a walker or wheelchair and don’t build it accordingly. As they age though, they begin to realize their bathroom no longer functions the way they need it to. That’s when we start getting calls.

Clients want their bathrooms remodeled for ADA accessibility so they can continue living in their homes as they enter their golden years. Here are some of the most common requests we get for these types of remodels:

  • Zero-entry (curbless) shower
  • 36″ doorways
  • Comfort height toilets
  • Grab bars along walls and in shower
  • Folding shower seat

With these features, clients can continue enjoying their home without fear of aging out of it.

Damaged Bathroom

The last of the big three.

I can’t tell you how many calls I’ve gotten about a toilet leaking and damaging the subfloor.

A subfloor can’t be repaired without taking the existing floor out. Likewise, a leaking shower can’t be fixed unless the walls come down.

At this point, you’re bathroom is already part of the way demoed, so why not take it the rest of the way and replace it with what you actually want?

Bathroom damages are gateways to remodels and its often more cost effective to remodel it during this phase than later down the road.

Common Bathroom Remodel Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we get asked before starting a remodel.

Should I replace my tub with a walk-in shower?

Usually the answer is yes, but it depends on the situation.

Most shower/tub combo units aren’t designed for a full-grown adult to comfortably use or soak in. In these cases, a walk in shower is a good option since it gives you more space.

On the other hand, if this is the only bathroom in your house, then replacing your tub with a walk-in shower might not be the best fit. It can hurt resale value since most families want a tub to bathe their children or pets. If you don’t plan on selling and have no use for the tub, then go ahead and replace it.

How long will this remodel take?

It’s a broad question that has hundreds of variables, but on average, you can expect 4-8 weeks if you are planning on a full bathroom remodel. More complex projects can extend beyond that.

What is included in the estimate?

This varies from contractor to contractor.

For ours, we include every possible detail so you have an idea on what the full amount will be when your project is said and done.

Other contractors omit items such as: towel bars, faucets, site clean up, dumpster rental, and so on. These contractors may assume the client will provide the items or they may intentionally keep them out of the estimate to make their end number more attractive.

Neither estimate is “wrong”. They’re just built differently. This is why it’s important to really pay attention to the line items in the estimate and not just the total dollar amount.

Can I stay in my home during a bathroom remodel?

The answer is almost always yes.

A good contractor will put up dust barriers and contain most of the mess to the room where the work is being done.

As long as you have another bathroom available to you, then there is typically no reason for you to have to leave during the remodel.

What do I need to know before I start?

You need to know what you actually want in your bathroom.

Most contractors will walk you through the design and layout process to help answer any questions you have.

To build a proper and accurate estimate, we need to know:

  • Is the layout changing?
  • Are you tiling the shower or floor?
  • Are you getting a different size vanity?

These are items to have prepared during the initial consultation with your contractor.

Do I need a budget?

Yes, you need to have a number in mind on what you feel comfortable spending on your bathroom.

Contractors don’t ask you this number so we can “max it out”. We ask you so we can structure our estimate to fit within your budget.

If you don’t give us a number at the start, then our estimate might come across as offensive if its beyond what you were expecting.

If you give us a number to work with, then we can include options and finishes that will fit within your budget. This also helps keep other bids similar to each other so you can compare apples to apples.

Final Thoughts: Planning your Bathroom Remodel

Every bathroom is different. Every home in Evansville is different. And every homeowner’s goals are different.

That’s why pricing a remodel isn’t about pulling a number from a chart, it’s about understanding your space, your priorities, and how long you plan to be there.

A bathroom remodel can be a great way to improve daily life, add value to your home, and allow you to enjoy your space for years to come.

What’s the best way to get an accurate number? Have a real conversation.

Walk through your bathroom. Look at the plumbing. Check for moisture. Talk through layout options. That’s where real numbers start to make sense.

The first step isn’t committing yourself to a remodel, it’s understanding what your specific bathroom actually needs.
